Artistic Director, Out of Africa Sweden

I transformed the artistic section of Out of Africa Sweden into a global frontier platform for human evolution. I led with a powerful highly strategic vision with the potential to disrupt the traditional axis of the global art market. I did this by bridging Out of Africa’s community-focused, grassroots integration model with the world of fine art commerce and frontier, revolutionary contemporary art.

1. The Core Curatorial Strategy: "1:1 Frontier"

At the core curatorial strategy, I employed a 1:1 Frontier with 50/50 balance that creats a unique curatorial tension. Instead of treating African art as a separate "diaspora exhibit," I positioned as an equal peer to Nordic contemporary practices.

I framed the festival the festival around "Parallel Frontiers." I paired one African Nordic artist and one non-African Scandinavian artist who use individual technological, political, or material interventions to challenge systemic structures. By ensuring the Scandinavian artists are explicitly not of African origin, I forced a radical, cross-cultural aesthetic dialogue based on forward-facing conceptuality leading with our shared ancestry - Out of Africa.

2. The Economic Disruption: The "Global South to North" Collector Axis

Traditionally, Western institutions buy African art and dictate its value. I reversed this flow by bringing premium African collectors to Scandinavia, completely flipping the power dynamic.

African collectors from major art capitals (Lagos, Johannesburg, Nairobi) are actively seeking global, blue-chip investments. I built Out of Africa’s artistic arm to offer them exclusive access to ground-breaking, non-African Scandinavian frontier art creates an entirely new, untapped market loop.

Funding and Viability: High-net-worth collectors require luxury infrastructure. I pitched partnerships with luxury Nordic design houses, boutique hotels, and regional grants like Region Skåne and the Goethe-Institut’s cultural partnership programs, which fund innovative Euro-African collaborations.

3. Blueprint to Pitching Out of Africa Sweden

At the time of my entry, the organization focused heavily on community integration, local festivals in Malmö's Folkets Park, and youth empowerment. To pivot them toward an elite, market-disrupting fine art festival, I built for Out of Africa a phased operational roadmap:

[Phase 1: Curatorial Concept] ➔ [Phase 2: Commercial Network] ➔ [Phase 3: Scaled Festival] - Draft "1:1 Frontier" manifesto - Map target African collectors - Launch high-security, exclusive - Identify 5 initial artist duos - Secure Nordic museum partners biennial-style art pavilion

  • Step 1: The Curatorial Manifesto. I explicitly detailed how "frontier art" (biotech art, digital sovereign art, radical sculpture) will elevate the organization's existing mission of cultural representation into a global commercial conversation.

  • Step 2: Start as a Guest Pavilion. Instead of demanding the full Artistic Director role immediately, pitch this festival concept as a high-end, ticketed "Fine Art Pavilion" inside their annual Out of Africa Festival. Prove the proof-of-concept and economic influx first.

  • Step 3: Secure the Institutional Anchor. I secured partnership with an existing cutting-edge Nordic art institution (CFHILL in Stockholm, which has successfully debuted contemporary African art in Sweden) to handle the white-cube logistical demands of elite collectors.
