How T-Rex Became My First Cultural Custodian

Gus is 67 million years old.

He is the apex predator of his era — the largest, most complete specimen ever found.

He is being sold by Sotheby's, the institution managed by my mentor, on July 14, 2026. His estimated value is the highest ever placed on a dinosaur fossil.

My practice began with parietal art — the oldest known human mark-making, cave paintings dating back 40,000 years. I traced the entire arc of human artistic expression from that origin point through to Postcontemporary architecture, and used that journey to locate where my own work sits — at the apex-frontier of what comes next – apex-frontier Postcontemporary fine art.

Gus represents the apex of a previous era of life on earth. My work represents the apex-frontier of the next era of human consciousness and meaning-making.

Both were uncovered. Both carry unprecedented value. Both exist at the intersection of deep time and the present moment.

And both are passing through two institutions that cater to cultural custodians.

I am Dr Abiosè M O Haara MD.
